Iota Limit

The Iota Limit is the progressive loss of conscious integration experienced by mortals who travel too far from Uclea without sufficient Lodestone anchoring. It appears in the successful Iota alternate history and is not an ordinary radiation or life-support problem.

Progression

Dreams and free imagination fade first, followed by distant goals, emotional salience, ownership of autobiographical memory, initiative and finally the sense that present perception belongs to one continuing subject. People may remain alive and technically functional while becoming less fully present.

Mechanism

Distance weakens the soul's phase-lock to Ūrkléan while leaving it attached to the body. The nervous system initially compensates, but uncertainty accumulates. Burden arrives in irregular pulses, producing headaches, missing time and alternating flattening and emotional surges.

Treatment

Anchorstone and anchormetal provide a local coherent reference. Powdered anchordust can restore someone briefly in an emergency, but repeated use produces dependence and the feeling that ordinary consciousness is unreal.
