Mortal Era

The Mortal Era is the earliest named period of Uclean history. Its years count backward toward the rise of the Five Kings. Its beginning is unknown and may extend many thousands of years into the past.

Political character

The era is remembered as fragmented and violent. Local kingdoms, city-states, magical orders and Form cults competed without a stable continental system. Surviving accounts are scarce and often distorted by later @Imperial historians, who used the period to justify the Kings' consolidation.

End of the era

Near the final five years, the Five Kings rise from leaders and stabilisers into the central authorities of a new order. The exact conversion between late Mortal Era dates and the Noble Era remains under review.

Legacy

Modern usage often treats “Mortal Era” as shorthand for primitive chaos, but the period contained sophisticated magic, Dverg engineering and traditions later erased during the Forgetting. Form-cult activity may also belong to this era.
