Mankin

Mankin, commonly called humans or Men, are one of the five mortal peoples and bear the burden of Change. Their short generations and unusually broad variation make them the principal innovators of later Uclean history, although innovation is a population tendency rather than an ability possessed equally by every individual.

Biology

Humans usually live between sixty and eighty years. Adult height ranges roughly from 150 to 220 centimetres, with an average near 178 centimetres. They vary more visibly than any non-Dire people in skin, hair, eyes and facial structure and alone commonly develop freckles, moles and similar marks.

Change and innovation

Mankin are especially capable of combining ideas across fields and creating new tools, institutions and methods. The same openness to change produces rapid adaptation and political instability. After the Exodus, human societies move from refugee administration through monarchy, capitalism, socialism, modern industry and military dictatorship within six centuries.

Languages and societies

Human linguistic diversity remains enormous. @Common survives as a widespread contact language, while Duchian, Krasnarusian, Nordic, Maritimian, Niakupubliczstani and Larolarian develop into major modern languages. Soleraen largely disappears from speech.

Following the Fall of the @[Five Kings](entry:a8fe47f7-9c25-5e54-bdf2-85c161931ac5), most surviving humans concentrate on the eastern continent. Over time they forget the Dvergr and Drywid almost completely and remember elves chiefly as the enemy beyond the front.

Relations with other peoples

Human states often describe the eastern continent as the Continent of Men, despite its older Dire, Dverg and elven populations. Modern infrastructure is designed around human bodies, indirectly excluding Dires even without explicit laws. Tarralik's rise forces the first large-scale accessibility reforms.
