Dawn Dominion

The Dawn Dominion, previously called Aelvara in some notes, is a hidden mixed state in the southeast of the eastern continent. It preserves Dvergr, Dires, Drywid, humans and uncursed Aelven in proportions almost opposite to the outside world and retains magic and cosmological knowledge lost during the Forever War.

Foundation

The Lower Gate tradition places one of Dawn's founding migrations immediately after the Fall of the @[Five Kings](entry:a8fe47f7-9c25-5e54-bdf2-85c161931ac5). Dvergr open a southern tunnel route and lead mixed refugees—including elves not yet fully taken by the curse—away from the Castle. Continued migration, sealed geography and intervention by Ūrkléan prevent contact with the outside.

The exact institutional sequence from refugee movement to Dominion remains underdesigned.

Population and government

Dvergr form roughly 40 per cent of the population, Dires 25 per cent, Drywid 15 per cent, and humans and Aelven about 10 per cent each. The state is republican but not democratic. A council of about fifty members governs, with representation from every people.

Dominion culture is conservative, technically behind the modern outside world, magically sophisticated and convinced of its own superiority. Internal wars and moral failures exist but require further design.

Isolation

Mountains, sea and resource-poor plains hide the Dominion. Outsiders dismiss the region as useless, while citizens know that an outside world exists but show little interest in investigating it. Ūrkléan's nudging reinforces both sides of the isolation.

Dawn sees Ūrkléan walking as the Figure rather than only inhabiting mortals. Dverg and Aelven theorists therefore develop a partial understanding of Lodestone, Uclidium and the Burdens.

Post-Cataclysm expansion

After 634 AFK, the Dominion becomes the main centre of demographic recovery. Fertility, health and settlement campaigns aim to increase the surviving populations that filter each burden. Expansion first fills an enclosed northern basin. Around 700 AFK, settlers cross the mountains and discover firearms, industrial ruins and hostile remnants of Mankin civilisation.

The first contact is violent and confused. Western survivors see an organised foreign state containing elves; Dawn settlers do not understand centuries of anti-Aelven war memory.
