Uclidium

Uclidium is refined Lodestone and the most important resonant material in Dverg magical engineering. A coherent piece behaves like a physical tuning fork: when struck, it sings, and the quality of its note reveals whether the material remains in one stable field state.

Orders and modes

Uclidium can hold several stable frequencies at once. Dverg engineers call these orders or modes: a base note accompanied by controlled overtones. Greater mass, density and carefully shaped geometry allow more orders without collapse into noise.

A small lining may hold one simple function. A heavy blade, vault core or machine assembly can hold several. Properly tuned pieces produce chords rather than a single tone, and moving objects may sing differently as their edge, spine, tang and mass enter changing relationships.

Enchanting

Enchanting uses Uclidium to store a stable magical pattern. An object may be lined with the material, fitted with a resonant insert, or honed against Uclidium until it catches the desired note. This does not imprison a personality. The object receives an artificial tune that repeats a limited bias without requiring a living caster to reconstruct it continuously.

A tuned weapon can hold more coherent force than several trained mages, but only within the orders engineered into it. It is powerful, repeatable and inflexible.

Manufacture and failure

Uclidium cannot be safely cast like ordinary metal. Full melting destroys the shared structure that keeps a piece in one tune. Excessive heat causes soul fracture, splitting the material into conflicting frequencies. Fractured pieces may amplify and suppress magic in different places, replay emotions or memories, disturb nearby consciousness or weaken a wielder's body-soul connection.

Dverg smithing therefore relies on controlled heat, pressure, vibration, honing and slow forging below the fracture threshold. The craft resembles tuning an instrument more than pouring metal into a mould.

Later uses

Post-Cataclysm communities combine recovered Uclidium with rifles, tools and machinery. Tuned barrels can produce ignition, pressure shock or unusual penetration, but cyclic heat rapidly detunes them. In the Iota branch, refined Uclidium is called anchormetal and preserves consciousness far more efficiently than raw anchorstone.
